Everyone has heard of speed dating but Northumbria Police has facilitated a Speed Faithing event for its latest student officers.

Leaders from seven different faiths including Sikh, Zoroastrian, BAHA'I the Inter-Faith and Ethnic Relations Advisor Diocese of Newcastle, Islam, Hindu, Catholic and Jewish.

The leaders met with the students in a carousel type format to educate them on their respective faiths and give the students the chance to ask questions about their respective religions.

PC Richard Hay, who set up the event, said: “We set this session up to ultimately better prepare our students when they come into contact with members of each faith while out on patrol.

“This was the first time we have tried this kind of event and are hoping to build on it in the future with more Speed Faithing events involving all leaders from all faiths.”

It is hoped to organise the event on a 12 weekly basis and any faith leader not already involved but interested in being part of it is encouraged to contact PC Hay on 101, ext 69926.
