Police are appealing for information after a burglary at a Scout hut in Gateshead.

The incident took place overnight between last Saturday and Sunday at the Scout headquarters building on Ruskin Road in Birtley.

Intruders have force entry to the building and caused substantial damage by smashing lights, breaking doors and ripping heaters off the wall.

This is the second time the building has been burgled after an incident in August this year where damage was caused.

Enquiries into the burglary are ongoing and we are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Neighbourhood Inspector Mick Robson said: "This building is at the heart of the community in Birtley and a very well attended club.

"These types of incidents cause massive disruption to their activities and we are making efforts to ensure this doesn't happen again.

"Enquiries into this most recent incident is ongoing and we would encourage anyone with any information to get in touch."

Any witnesses, or anyone who knows the people involved, should contact the OIC by emailing 2095@northumbria.pnn.police.uk or calling 101 quoting log 465 22/10/17.
