Key witnesses sought after report of rape

Police investigating a report of a rape in South Tyneside are appealing for two potential key witnesses to come forward.

This appeal follows an incident on Friday night (November 17) in West Park in South Shields.

Detectives have been carrying out enquiries and believe the victim spoke to two men in Stanhope Road, after the incident, shortly before midnight on Friday night.

Officers are keen to speak to the men as potential witnesses in the investigation.

One of the men is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall, little build, dark short hair, wearing a black and grey scarf. The only description of the second man is he was white with blonde hair.

The men, or anyone with information, are asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 1271  171117 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A 19-year-old man has been charged with rape and appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning.
