Two Sunderland burglars have been jailed.

On Monday (November 20) Colin Pearson, who is 37 and of Deerness Road, was sentenced to nine months for a burglary on September 24 in Osman Close in the city. He went into the property through an unlocked front door and stole a number of items.

Last week, Robert Ian Irwin, who is 47 and of St Bedes Terrace, was also sentenced to nine months for burglary after he stole a bike from a garage in Park Place West. The garage had been left unlocked.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Gosling said: “Our commitment to tackling burglaries is continuing and it’s good to see two more burglars behind bars.

“Some very simple steps can help prevent people to falling victim and we would always advise people to make sure they lock doors and garages, even when they are in the house.”
