Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in Byker.

Between 11.40am and 11.50am on Thursday (January 11) police received a report that a G4S cash carrier had been robbed outside Weatherspooon's on Shields Road, Byker.

The offender approached the cash carrier, a 35-year-old man, with a hammer, hit the carrier in the arm with the hammer and stole cash. He made off in a white Ford Fietsa.

The 35-year-old man suffered minor injuries.

The offender is described as white in his 20s, slim build, 5ft 10.  He was wearing a grey hooded top, grey tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything.
