Police are appealing for information after a burglary in Berwick upon Tweed.

The burglary happened between 12.30pm and 5.30pm on Sunday, January 21 on Ivinson Road.

During the burglary a blue handbag - that had sentimental photographs inside- was stolen.

The home owner was present during the burglary but not injured and police are now asking for the public’s help in tracing the items.

The photographs are of a woman in her navy uniform from the 1940’s and one of another woman in a nurses uniform from the 1950’s.

The handbag also contained a quantity of cash.

Detective Constable Anthony Murray, Northumbria Police said: “We are carrying out enquiries and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“These photos are incredibly important to the victim and have great sentimental value.”

“We are asking members of the public, especially dog walkers, to keep an eye out for the bag and photographs when out and about.”

“These criminals rely on people leaving doors and windows unlocked. Please make sure your homes and cars are secure and all valuables on not on display.”

Any witnesses to the burglary, or anyone with information about the stolen items is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
