Armed robbery in Silksworth

Police are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery in Sunderland. 

At 9.10am this morning police were called to J&H Local in Tempest Street in Silksworth after reports of an armed robbery.

A man went into the store and threatened staff before stealing a lottery machine. He was in possession of a handgun, although at the current time it is not known whether it was real or imitation.

No-one has been injured but those in the store have been left shaken by the incident.

The lottery machine has been located in Londonderry Street.

Extra officers are in the area both to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance.

A search is underway to locate the offender. He is described as approximately  5ft 6 inches tall and wearing a dark blue balaclava, black padded hooded jacket, blue latex gloves, tracksuit bottoms and grey/black shoes.
