Four burglars have been handed prison sentences totalling more than eleven years.

On February 15, Stuart Taylor, 49 of Belgrave Terrace, was sentenced to three years for two burglaries. One at a guest house in Ocean Road in South Shields and one at an address in Julian Avenue, also in South Shields. Both burglaries were committed last May.

Taylor’s sentence followed that of  Gary Fleming who was jailed for a burglary in Warwick Drive in Washington last August. The 39-year-old, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 38 months on February 8.

And, last month two burglars were jailed for a burglary in Lambton Drive in Houghton.During the burglary in August last year, a car was stolen from outside the address after the offenders broke into the house and stole the keys.

Stephen Ambler, 39 of no fixed abode was sentenced on January 25 to 37 months for burglary, his co-accused Kieton Pearson, 18 also of no fixed abode, was given 32 months to serve in a youth offenders institute.

The sentence’s come as Northumbria Police continues to crackdown on burglars across Sunderland and South Tyneside.

Detective Sergeant Steve Wallace, whose team focus on burglaries, said: “Burglary very much remains a priority for me and my team and we will continue to make sure those who are responsible are put behind bars.”
