Officers in Newcastle are clamping down on burglars after a spate of incident in recent weeks.
Since the middle of February police have received nine reports of intruders targeting addresses in the Fenham area.
Some of the incidents have seen burglars entering through second-floor windows to raid the properties.
Other reports to police have included windows and doors being smashed open by opportunist thieves.
A range of property has been stolen during the raids including laptops, jewellery and quantities of cash.
Patrols have been stepped up in the area and residents have told those officers about suspicious behaviour in the area.
They reported two men have been visiting addresses stating they are window cleaners - but they had no water or equipment.
Officers are now asking residents to be on guard and report any suspicious behaviour to their local neighbourhood team.
Sergeant Grant Urquhart, of the Newcastle North NPT, said: "This is a bit of a spike in incidents and enquiries are ongoing to trace those involved.
"A number of the incidents are taking place in the early to late evening and are concentrated in quite a small area of Fenham.
"We have been stepping up patrols and have had reports of two suspicious males who have said they are window cleaners.
"We are looking in to this to establish if they could be connected to the burglaries but we need the public to be on guard.
"Keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour and take steps to make your homes secure. always lock your windows and doors and keep keys out of sight.
"We will update you on the investigation but please do get in touch if you think you have information that may help our enquiries."
The burglaries have taken place on roads including Beadnell Gardens, Gowland Avenue, Middleton Avenue, Severus Road and Baldwin Avenue.
