Police are appealing for witnesses following a four vehicle road traffic collision in Washington yesterday evening.
At around 11pm last night (Tuesday) we received reports of a four vehicle road traffic collision on the A1290 at the junction of Cherry Blossom Way.
It is believed that a black BMW 320i was travelling on the road when it collided with two stationary vehicles before then colliding with a heavy goods vehicle.
Officers are still carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what has happened.
Emergency services attended the scene and the driver of a BMW was taken to the hospital with serious head injuries.
The 26-year-old man has sadly since passed away and family liaison officers are supporting his family at this difficult time.
He has now been named as Alexander Slark who was from the Washington area. Our thoughts go out to his family.
The A1290 was closed for five and a half hours to facilitate a thorough forensic collision investigation and recovery of the vehicles.
Officers are keen to speak to any witnesses of the incident, particularly those that might have dash cam footage of the moments leading up to the collision.
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log 1261 22/05/18.
