Appeal for witnesses after assault leaves man in induced coma

Police are appealing for information after a man was put in an induced coma following an assault in Newcastle.
At around 8pm on Friday police received a report that a 33-year-old man had been assaulted outside Butler’s bar on Nun Street in the city centre.
He had become involved in an altercation before being pushed. He has then fallen backwards and suffered a serious head injury.
The victim has then been taken to hospital where he was put in an induced coma. He is described as being in a critical but stable condition.
A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident but he has since been released under investigation.
A full investigation into the assault is ongoing but police are now asking for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or witnessed what happened immediately before or after the assault.
