An investigation has been launched after a robbery at a bookmakers on a Gateshead retail park.

At around 9.35pm last night (Weds) police received a report that two men had entered Chisholm bookmakers on the Team Valley Trading Estate.

They entered the shop, based in The Valley Shopping Village, before threatening the male staff member and demanding they hand over cash.

The men have then fled on foot with a quantity of cash.

The lone staff member was not assaulted during the raid but he is very shaken by what happened and has been supported by police.

Enquiries to trace the men are ongoing but police are now appealing for anyone who saw the men in the area around the time of the robbery to get in touch.

Detectives have also released images of the suspects in the hope that a member of the public may recognise their clothing.

One of the men was wearing a dark jacket with distinctive red markings, dark Adidas tracksuit bottoms with two white stripes and black trainers.

He was wearing gloves and a mask, described as a 'Spiderman mask'.

The second male was wearing a plain black jacket, grey jogging bottoms and a black beany type hat.

He also has what appears to be a snood or scarf over the bottom half of his face.

Anyone who recognises the men, or who saw them in the Teams Valley area last night, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 1124 15/08/18 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
