Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to after an alleged assault in Whitley Bay.

At 1.36am on Sunday (September 9) police received a report that a woman had been assaulted near to Station Road.

It is understood that the 19-year-old woman had been making her way home from the town centre when she was assaulted by an unknown man. He has then fled the scene.

The woman was treated at hospital for non-life threatening injuries following the incident.
